Setting up your Email Program
To begin using the Death2Spam Internet Mail Filtering Service, simply change some information in your email program, then retrieve your email messages just as you normally do...
You first need to configure your email program so that it picks up your mail via the Death2Spam proxy server (instead of directly from your POP mail server). The D2S server will then fetch your mail on request, analyze it using advanced spam-recognition logic, and determine the probability of it being spam.
If it's a "good" message, it will be sent directly into your inbox! Otherwise, the email's subject line is tagged so you can trash it if it's spam, or you can train the system if D2S was unsure. Below is an example of how to point a typical email program at the Death2Spam POP Proxy Service.
Outlook 2000 and Outlook Express:
- Click on the Tools : Accounts... menu item.
- Select the Mail tab, and click on the default Account (as shown below).
- Click on the Properties button, and select the Servers tab.
- Change the "Incoming Mail (POP3)" field to
death2spam.net.
- Change the Incoming Mail Server "Account Name" field to be your logon name, a colon character (:), followed by your POP server name. For example, if your POP logon name were "someone", and the POP server were "pop.mydomain.com", then you should enter
someone:pop.mydomain.com... easy, really!
- Do not change the Password field, nor the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) field.
- Finally, click the OK button, then close the Internet Accounts window.
- Congratulations, you're now ready to retrieve your filtered emails!
Trouble-Shooting a Connection:
If you're experiencing any problems when configuring your email program, you should verify that you have entered the correct information, and that D2S is able to connect with your POP mail server. You can use the Verify Connection page to help you with diagnosing and fixing the problem. Please try this before reporting a bug or system malfunction!
